A multimedia exhibition by seven artists of the Visual Art Faculity, North Tec - Tai Tokerau Wananga, Whangarei

Often artists working as art tutors are only known for the work that they create inside the institution where they teach. For this exhibition Maree Saunders, curator, invited the tutors of North Tec to exhibit work from the various contexts that underpin their own individual art making practice.

The title ' In the Making of Chalk ', selected by the exhibiting artists, is taken from John Ruskin's selected text 'On Art and Life' and can be read to suggest a holistic approach to the art making practice.

The works exhibited cover a wide range of media: drawing, photography, sculptural furniture, hand blown glass and painting, with a number of works pushing at the boundaries of the particular artists’ art practice. Allowing the viewing public a glimpse into the contexts and concepts that inform

Artists: Steve Biggins; Lisa Clunie; Murry Gibbs; Vaughan Gunson;
